Johnny Whittle Creative Director & Design Craftsman

Johnny Whittle has spent over 35 years turning bold ideas into tangible realities across furniture, retail, architecture, and community projects.

From his early days as an apprentice joiner and scuba diving instructor — where resilience and craft went hand-in-hand — Johnny built a foundation of resourcefulness that has defined his career. After earning a First-Class Honours in Furniture & Product Design from the London College of Furniture, his breakthrough work was exhibited internationally from New York to Milan, and he founded his first studio, Missing Link Design.

Johnny went on to deliver high-profile projects including work on Windsor Castle after the fire, bespoke commissions for clients such as Alan Brown (CEO, Schroders), and innovative interiors from stainless-steel kitchens in Eaton Square to exhibition pieces seen across Europe. His corporate chapter saw him lead design at Burton Group and Debenhams, where he helped launch the landmark “Designers at Debenhams” brand. Later, as Design Director at Raymond Loewy International, he shaped global retail and lifestyle concepts before co-founding Four-by-Two, growing it from 2 to 20 people, and launching his own Soho-based studio, Anoonamoo Ltd.

In 2014 Johnny relocated with his family to Australia, where he consulted on major projects including the first solar-panelled fuel station for Shell/Viva Energy, private residential architecture, and national retail brand launches, while immersing himself in surf culture and community life.

Now back in the UK, Johnny leads projects under johnnywhittle.com , spanning the redevelopment of Barbara Hepworth’s studio in London modular retail systems (such as the Peachaus Boobicle Van and Pop-up Shop), heritage-sensitive developments (Freshford Mill Phase near Bath), and ambitious community projects (Marshfield Indoor Cricket Nets & Café). Interior design and implementation of Beckford Lodge Bath & He is also deeply engaged in industry advocacy, working with New London Architecture (NLA) to champion apprenticeships and skills for the built environment.
